Get Rid of KGN Hin Bus from Penang!

Penang is in dire need to have an efficient public transport system. The idea mooted by the Penang State Government to introduce Water Taxis like those in Sydney must be lauded. As much as we need more buses plying our roads regularly, I can't help but feel disgusted by the presence of KGN Hin Bus which is plying the the Tourist Route of Georgetown - Tanjong Bungah - Batu Ferringi. The buses used by KGN HIN are actually buses that are dumped from other States. These buses are poorly maintained.

KGN Hin buses also pack passengers like sardines and I've even seen people dangling from a speeding KGN Hin bus just like you would see in Jakarta or Dhaka, Bangladesh. Very often you will find KGN Hin buses breaking down. Most of these buses are old and slow and are not suitable to travel the hilly and winding road to Batu Ferringi. Motorists have to frustratingly put up with these slow moving buses less they want to take the risk of overtaking these buses on a winding road such as Batu Ferringi. The sight of these buses are unsightly and the drivers are reckless and rude to passengers. These KGN Hin Buses also emit a lot of smoke. By right the the relevant authourities such as JPJ, Puspakom ought to pull KGN Hin Buses off the road. However I know why no action has been taken thus far. The reason for this is because KGN HIN is owned by an Umno linked Company. Need I say more?

Whatever the case, KGN Hin is an embarrassment to Penang as it gives a bad impression to foreigners visiting Penang. In fact, a child of a tourist from England thought that KGN Hin Buses were actually prison buses!

Ong vs Chua: MCA will lose out

The Chinese language mainstream and alternative media have been saturated lately with speculations that MCA is set for another one of those gargantuan party crisis that could mean disaster for this old premier party in Malaysia.

Undercurrents of factional strife have been festering beneath the surface since the newly minted MCA President Ong Tee Keat has failed to appoint his new deputy Dr Chua Soi Lek to any cabinet position. Ong had mumbled in the past about how political leaders needing high personal moral standards, making veiled reference to Chua’s sex video scandal.

Just last week, all ten MCA ministers and deputy ministers had come out with a collective statement expressing their support for the political leadership of Tee Keat. It is an unprecedented move that raised the question: why now?

Shortly thereafter, Ong himself made the stunning revelation that there are forces inside and outside the MCA to subvert the party and force him from his leadership position.

Internal dissenting forces

He alleged that these individuals and groups with vested interest in the PKFZ issue had been spreading rumours by word of mouth and SMS in an illicit campaign of character assassination. According to him, there were even threats from the underworld against his personal safety.

This is immediately mocked by Chua as Ong’s attempt at creating a heroic image for himself. He wondered whether a Cabinet minister can be so easily intimidated by the underworld, and why Ong had not reported to the police to seek protection of the state.

Meanwhile, the media is speculating that internal dissenting forces are agitating for a special MCA delegates convention aimed at removing Ong from office as MCA president and transport minister. This has raised the spectre of extremely acrimonious and self-destructive struggle for power between warring factions that had weakened the party in the past.

The fuse for the current eruption of open verbal scuffle between the two titanic figures of the MCA is probably the re-surfacing of Chua’s sex video. Unlike a year ago when the video fist surfaced, Chua seems determined to fight it out all the way.

The MCA disciplinary committee had already issued a show-cause letter on the video issue, and August 4 has been fixed as the hearing date.

Rumours rule the day

Chua’s supporters could have seen the show cause letter as just another conspiracy by Ong to remove Chua from office by using an old issue, though it has been said that Ong knew nothing about the letter issued by the disciplinary committee. Rumours rule the day these days, and it is hard to know what’s what!

I have been vaguely interested in some rounds of MCA crisis through three decades. The fiercest one was probably the fight between Tan Koon Swan and Dr Neo Yee Pan, involving many special MCA delegates’ conventions. It was very ugly to watch even from outside. They went against each other like mortal enemies.

Tan won in that tussle but had to go to jail in Singapore, paving the way for Dr Ling Liong Sik to ascend to the MCA throne for a long period of time.

Personally, I dislike the MCA as a political party intensely. But when Ong Tee Keat first entered Parliament as a young man in the mid 80s, I had thought well of him, despite our occasional scuffle in the House when he was Deputy Speaker. He was an engineer by training, but he was reputed to be a writer of Chinese poems and well liked by the Chinese intellegentia and Chinese journalists.

Chua Soi Lek came to the scene after my time. By all indications, he must have enjoyed widespread grassroots support, when he could be elected as deputy president of MCA, even after he was tainted by the sex video scandal.

It is unwise for them to lock horns at a time when the nation’s heartbeat is gripped with anxieties over the death of Teoh Beng Hock and the PKFZ scandal.

The MCA has lost a huge chuck of its electoral territory after the March 8 general election last year. You would expect them to rethink and regroup all their splintered forces after the debacle to work towards a collective come-back. Even Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is making a visible attempt to regain the middle ground lost by the BN en masse in that election.

Chua has nothing to lose

Already, Chua Jui Meng - a former MCA leading figure - had left to join the PKR. Whether he would turn out to be toxic asset is left to be seen, but he must have lingering influence in Johore. Pakatan Rakyat needs badly that kind of connection in Johore, which has always remained as a BN fortress in many general elections.

That may explain why Soi Lek is so resolved to take the fight to Ong this time around openly. Earlier, there had been rumours that he too might join PR one day. Without any ministerial position and any real power inside the party, while being marginalised at every move, he had nothing to lose. If he loses in the current crisis, he can always join PR, taking more chunks of MCA members and supporters in Johore with him.

Unfortunately, Chinese politics is often more about personalities than about policies and ideologies. The same applies to other Chinese based politics such as Gerakan, DAP, and SUPP in Sarawak.

I doubt if we have seen the last of the dramas of this MCA internal fight. If the current crisis escalates, we may just be witnessing the beginning of the end for the MCA!

Save Christian Mission Schools From Umno's Little Mullahs - Malaysiakini

It was reported that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will become PM at a difficult time when the economy is not at its best. He will have to shoulder a lot of expectations from the people. This is more so, when we have seen how religious bigotry and Malay chauvinism rearing it's ugly head. Read here:

We have read from malaysiakini how the Little Mullahs are against a non Malay Malaysians from being appointed as the GM of PKNS. We have also already seen what has happened to the Anglican, Methodist and other Catholic Mission Schools.

The fact that these Mission schools have been around has always been a 'duri dalam daging' (thorn in the flesh) for these zealots who have forgotten the contribution of the Christian Mission Schools. There have been cases of Malay teachers asking not to be transferred to schools like SXI all because they deemed it as a Christian School.

Many of these teachers, who for the record can't speak English or refuse to speak English come from Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu. Just look at schools like St. Georges in Penang, Penang Free School and Convent Pulau Tikus (picture above right) in Penang and you will be able to tell what fate awaits SXI when Bro. Paul Ho leaves.

The way the Little Mullah operated Education Department works is that it will appoint a non Muslim to head the school once the Christian Head retires as in the case of SXI and all the other Christian Schools. Normally this non Muslim Principal would be nearing retirement age.

Once this Principal retires, the next Principal will be a Little Mullah Principal whose first task in Talibanization is to 'exorcise' the School of any elements of Christianity. This will include the getting rid of all things considered 'Syirik'. This will include changing the School emblem. Removing all crucifixes and Statues. Read more about it here:

Filial Piety: the Most Important Virtue in Chinese Culture

Being brought up in a conservative Chinese family in Ipoh, the idea of Filial Piety and other virtues may seem rather absurd to the Gen X people. But according to Chinese tradition Filial Piety is the most important virtue to be cherished through out the span of one’s parents’ lifetime.

According to the Chinese tradition being a filial son is the uppermost duty of any Chinese son. Being a filial son means complete obedience to your parents, taking all possible cares of them, meeting their demands at any cost and not harming their feelings at any point of time. However it has been debated that in the times of Valentine’s Day culture how far can a son agree to all characteristics of filial piety.

Filial Piety had its origin in Confucius. Xiao was a very important doctrine with Confucius. It means blind loyalty to one’s own parents. But ren and yi were even more important norms with Confucius. Xiao is merely the show of ren and yi, which formulate the interrelationship of the parents and the children. The most important text on Filial Piety is “Xiao Jing” or the “Book of Filial Piety”.

According to Chinese tradition Filial Piety has its other features too. After the death of the parents the eldest child is required to perform all the rituals. One basic thing about filial piety is that the child has to ensure that the family line is continued. If the marriage turns out to a barren one the son can take another wife or adopt a child.

Stories about Filial Piety abound in Chinese tradition and culture. The most fascinating story collection of this sort is The Twenty Four Examples of Filial Piety compiled and edited by Kuo Chu-ching in Yuan Dynasty.

MIC MUST EXPLAIN ABOUT NUDE PHOTO FIASCO - malaysiakini

It was reported by .malaysiakini, that it was time to engage with Hindraf. However this would be impossible with MIC wanting to be in the picture and putting its nose where it doesn't belong. The MIC had better come up with a good explaination instead, regarding the the issue surrounding its Youth Member Dr. Punithan Shan. As promised I had given Dr. Punithan Shan a fair chance to explain himself and clear his name with regards to the Friendster sex fiasco involving a Japanese teenager by the name of Akiko. Unfortunately, Dr. Punithan chose to attack me with his rhetoric and sarcasm. Punithan has since removed Akiko's photo from his Friendster. However, I've managed to get a copy of his Friendster Page with Akiko's photo in it below just before it was removed by Dr. Punithan, What is sickening here is that there are so-called 'Followers' of Punithan who agrees with what he is doing. An example of such sickening comment was found in Dr.Punithan's COFFEE WITH PUNITHAN BLOG comment section which I have reproduced below:

Storm in a teacup. I think what a man and a woman do with each other in the private is his own business. Why should double standards be applied to anybody - even a politician? If the majority of Malaysian men are having a good time with their women partner, then it's really not for us to care. Even politicians are human beings.However, if he is cheating on his wife or engaging in the services of a prostitute, then it is another matter. It speaks volumes on his lack of principles. In this case, I am not sure if this politician in question is married.

MIC YOUTH IN NUDE PHOTO SCANDAL - malaysiakini

I have been sent information about a Youth member of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) by what I presume to be a lady who may be a Friendster pal of either Dr. Punithan Shan (left) or Miss Akiko (right). After reading the links that was sent to me on conditions of anonimity, I did my own check to verify this very serious allegation against a Youth member of the MIC who has just graduated as a Doctor. What I discovered was very shocking indeed. It is strange to read this on the eve of Deepavali. I was reading about Deepavali in the following link http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/91891

I've decided to give the alledge links of the Friendster correspondence between Punithan Shan and Akiko below. I've also reproduced part of the transcript of the Friendster correspondence between Punithan and Akiko who is an 18 year old University freshman.

Be fair to Soi Lek - Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching

Serdang parliamentarian Teo Nie Ching (pic above) does not see the morality issue as a big deal.“I think it’s more important to gauge the level of confidence people has in a leader with tainted past. She was commenting on Chua Soi Lek's wining of the MCA Vice Presidents post. BANANA PEOPLE

Just a few days ago, I went to buy bread from a Chinese sundry shop in Tanjong Bungah. The towkei of the shop packed the bread for me and said, "Yi kuai Jiu!" and I had to turn to my friend, "What ah? How much ah?" Feeling very pai seh, my friend replied, "He said RM1.90 la.."

The towkei was slightly amused and wondered where I'm from since I can't understand Chinese (Mandarin). My friend then explained to him that I am from Ipoh and English educated (cheh wah, like very gaya like that) and can't read or write Chinese. The kindly old towkei nodded and smiled understandingly.

Not wanting to appear as un-chinese as I have already seemed to him, I said, "Ngo sek gong guongdong wah lah!" (I can speak Cantonese). "Ngo sek gong siu siu wah yi tan hai ng sek gong fu kin wah. Soh yu tau sin ngo ng meng pak lei gong mee yeah loh." (I know a little mandarin but do not know any Hokkien. That is why I did not understand what you said just now).

The towkei looked at me blankly. His 13 year old son replied for his father, "Ngo ah pa ng sek gong guongdong wah geh. Tan hai hui tau sin hai gong gan wah yi, ng hai fu kin wah," (My father doesn’t speak Cantonese. But he was speaking mandarin just now, not hokkien.).

The little boy then gave me a disgusted look, clearly wondering what kind of Chinese species I am if I don't even know mandarin. I was so peeved!!

I was looked down upon! Discriminated by my own race!
Maybe it's time to form another race of my own: Bananas.

For those who do not know, Banana is a term given to Chinese people who cannot speak Mandarin. Just like a banana, they are yellow on the outside but white on the inside. We originate from a bunch of Chinese people whose parents sent them to English schools set up by the British and most of the time, for the past three generations, not a single family member would know how to write Chinese. Most of the bananas' greatest command of Chinese would be the Hokkien and Cantonese vulgarities though.

Banana people (xiang jiao ren/kung chiu yan) have adopted Manglish as their traditional language (Just like Pua Chu Kang with his Singlish). Majority of the bananas can speak their own dialect but they can not read or write Chinese. Bananas celebrate Christmas (we like presents!) and Chinese new year (money is always good). Now, this has nothing to do with religion but we just like to celebrate for the slightest reasons.

Banana people shake their heads at other Chinese with extremely bad grammar. "May I friendster you?" makes banana girls want to drive a stake through the skulls of those lala chais. Perhaps banana people may be a little egoistical in the sense that they think just because they are westernized and are more proficient in English means they are better educated. I used to hold true to that belief but I have changed my views as I have come to realize the extreme difference between two types of Chinese educated Chinese.

Most of the top students in Malaysia are those from Chinese schools. They can get the highest grades and scare you with their studious attitude.(read: nerd.) Of course I respect them, I need to copy their notes. These top students are also one of the more creative people around and perhaps it's the chinese school upbringing, they are usually very talented.

The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 culminating in the Tiananmen Square Massacre were a series of demonstrations in and near Tiananmen Square led by labour activists, students, and intellectuals in the People's Republic of China (PRC) between 15 April and 4 June 1989.

A day after the death of Hu Yaobang, supporters of liberalization started small scale protests. While the protests lacked a unified cause or leadership, participants were generally against the authoritarianism and voiced calls for economic liberalization and democratic reform within the structure of the government. The demonstrations centered on Tiananmen Square in Beijing, but large-scale protests also occurred in cities throughout China, including Shanghai, which stayed peaceful throughout the protests.

The movement lasted seven weeks from Yaobang's death on 15 April until tanks cleared Tiananmen Square on 4 June. In Beijing, the resulting military response to the protesters by the PRC government left many civilians dead or injured. The reported tolls ranged from 2,000–3,000 (Chinese student associations and Chinese Red Cross figures).

Following the violence, the government conducted widespread arrests to suppress protesters and their supporters, cracked down on other protests around China, banned the foreign press from the country and strictly controlled coverage of the events in the PRC press. Members of the Party who had publicly sympathized with the protesters were purged, with several high-ranking members placed under house arrest, such as General Secretary Zhao Ziyang. The violent suppression of the Tiananmen Square protest caused widespread international condemnation of the PRC government.

In the immediate aftermath of the protests, some within the Communist Party attempted to curtail free market reforms that had been undertaken as part of Chinese economic reform and reinstitute administrative economic controls. However, these efforts met with stiff resistance from provincial governors and broke down completely in the early 1990s as a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union and Deng Xiaoping's trip to the south. Deng Xiaoping knew the antidote to cure this problem was to introduce capitalism and accelerate economic reforms while at the same maintaining the Communist Party's iron fisted grip on power. Deng knew that the Chinese people would abandon their pursuit for democracy if they enjoyed economic prosperity.

Deng was right as the continuance of economic reform led to economic growth in the 1990s, which allowed the government to regain much of the support that it had lost in 1989. In addition, none of the current PRC leadership played any active role in the decision to move against the demonstrators, and one major leadership figure Premier Wen Jiabao was an aide to Zhao Ziyang and accompanied him to meet the demonstrators. Today there are economic "sectors" in which business can thrive and this has opened up economic freedom and access to goods.

The protest leaders at Tiananmen were unable to produce a coherent movement or ideology that would last past the mid-1990s. Many of the student leaders came from relatively well-off sectors of society and were seen as out of touch with common people. A number of them were socialists. Many of the organizations which were started in the aftermath of Tiananmen soon fell apart due to personal infighting. Several overseas democracy activists were supportive of limiting trade with mainland China which significantly decreased their popularity both within China and among the overseas Chinese community. A number of NGOs based in the U.S., which aim to bring democratic reform to China and relentlessly protest human rights violations that occur in China, remain. One of the oldest and most prominent of them, the China Support Network (CSN), was founded in 1989 by a group of concerned Americans and Chinese activists in response to Tiananmen Square.

Capitalism itself has reared it's ugly head with personal liberty and freedom of speech being traded off for profit. This happened when the Chinese Government pressured Yahoo! to turn over to its police the names of political dissidents who use the company’s e-mail service. China also convinced Microsoft to shut down Internet blogs in which Chinese users were criticizing their government, and persuaded Google to censor its search engine results.

The same scenario can play out in Malaysia should Najib Razak become Prime Minister. Even more scary is the possibility of the events of Tiananmen Square repeating itself on our streets considering the fact that Najib will be a 'remote controlled' PM of the authoritarian former PM Mahathir, a fact that has been admitted by former Minister Zaid Ibrahim. Remember that Merc-riddled Terengganu State government? Well, apparently this time around its plan to put on the road all of the eight buses it had purchased at RM430,000 each was stalled because of some ‘technical glitches’.

These custom-made buses were supposed to be ‘eye-catching’ enough particularly for the tourists.

It looks like we can get a triple whammy by getting rid of Umno/BeeEnd, free all the ISA detainee's and get the ISA abolished all at the same time. This way, we don't have to worry about Mahathir's remote control PM Najib Razak coming to power in March 2009.

According to the International Court of Justice Rome Statute, the ISA is considered as a Crime Against Humanity. This means that Pak Lak, Mahathir, Syed Hamid Albar and gang can be prosecuted for crimes against humanity for using the ISA on Malaysian citizens like RPK and the HINDRAF 5.

When spending RM1.8 million is no longer cool

It was reported that Air Keroh Community Polyclinic in Melaka would need to replace its fungus-infested air-conditioning system to the tune of RM1.8 million.

Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai told Bernama that ‘damage to the system’s temperature control unit had led to high moisturization that caused fungus to grow’.

He complained: ‘That is why I have always stressed that maintenance is very important. If there is no proper maintenance these things will happen. When the fungus attack becomes too big it gets out of control. So we have to change the whole system.’Read more here:

NGOs want Bukit Aman to head probe on alleged harassment of Penan women

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty-three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the Bar Council want Bukit Aman instead of the Sarawak police to investigate the alleged sexual abuse of Penan women and girls by loggers.

They said this on Wednesday, citing non-action over the alleged rape of a 12-year-old Penan girl back in 1994 and other abuses.

The NGOs said in a statement the affected communities had “expressed a serious lack of confidence in the Sarawak police due to their long-standing dealings with them” and the perpetuation of abuse with impugnity.

Referring to the reports of rape, sexual abuse and exploitation of Penan girls and women in The Star on Oct 6, they said that despite the serious nature of the allegations Sarawak police had been dismissive, insisting a report be lodged before an investigation commences.

They questioned police commitment since the Marudu police had stated that they had found no evidence of abuse but “temporary” marriages between Penan women and loggers. Read More here:

15. Prohibition on a student or a students’ organization, body or group associating with societies, etc., except as provided under the Constitution or approved by the Vice-Chancellor.

(1) No person, while he is a student of the University, shall be a member of, or shall in any manner associate with, any society, political party, trade union or any other organization, body or group of persons whatsoever, whether or not it is established under any law, whether it is in the University or outside the University, and whether it is in Malaysia or outside Malaysia, except as many be provided by or under the Constitution, or except as many be approved in advance in writing by the Vice-Chancellor.

(2) No organization, body or group of students of the University, whether established by, under or in accordance with the Constitution, or otherwise, shall have any affiliation, association or other dealing whatsoever with any society, political party, trade union or any other organization, body or group of persons whatsoever, whether or not it is established under any law, whether it is in the University or outside the University, and whether or not it is in Malaysia or outside Malaysia, except as many be provided by or under the Constitution, or except as many be approved in advance in writing by the Vice-Chancellor.

(3) No person, while he is a student of the University, shall express or do anything which many be construed as expressing support, sympathy or opposition to any political party or trade union or as expressing support or sympathy with any unlawful organization, body or group of persons.

(4) No organization, body or group of students of the University which is established by, under or in accordance with the Constitution, or any other organization, body or group of students of the University, shall express or do anything which may be construed as expressing support, sympathy or opposition to any political party or trade union or as expressing support or sympathy with any unlawful organization, body or group of persons.

(5) Any person who contravenes or fails to comply with the provisions of subsection (1), (2), (3) or (4) shall be guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both such fine and imprisonment.

Are we going to allow the monsters get away with their crimes which they are likely to repeat? Are we going to just stand and pretend that nothing ever happened to the Penan girls?’

In response to the issue of the sexual crimes against young Penan girls which has been in the news of a late, a reader like myself is left not only enraged but also agreeing with those who are calling for the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Recalling some history lessons at high school on colonialism during the rise of the Western empires of the past where there were true historical accounts of European colonialists who took advantage of the female indigenous natives, I thought this kind of thing would never repeat itself in the future. Malaysiakini: MIC making use of young Indian youths

MIC Blogger PUNITHAN SHAN seen in this filepic above, has been appearing on all the major Blogs for the wrong reasons. It is rather clear that this poor lad has been used by Samy Vellu and the MIC to mislead the people into believing that Hindraf and MIC are working together. This however has failed to bear fruit. Punithan also has been attacking Hindraf, it's Chairman P. Waytha Moorthy, Pakatan Rakyat and Anwar Ibrahim with such venom in his Blogs. However, his double headed game ended when the Admin from Hindraf came out with a statement saying that Punithan Shan does not represent Hindraf and Hindraf has nothing to do with Punithan. Punithan Shan is a nobody who has been used by MIC who has nothing else but a collection of gorgeous looking girls in his Facebook and Friendster sites.

HI,It is just fabulous that we Indians attack each other and call each other the P-word with such utter delight. But I cannot help wondering why you seem so pro-MIC and then blog as a Hindraf enthusiast. I am not as industrious as you so claim to be, being a medical student and all but I have 20 odd years teaching wanabee doctors such as you.

You must be one lucky Indian to love your country this much and have such immense pride in being Malaysian. I for one never have had such misgivings as I have been and still am treated like a third-class 'P'. Seriously, with all sincerity and the pride you seem to hold for your parents...tell me this...What has MIC or your dear "Semi-Value" done for Indians? Forget the bull about Tamil schools and temples and our childrens' education.

When I once had the stupidity to apply for a student loan at MIC, I was refused as my parents then had no money to donate to an MIC 'fund'. I was told that as a girl, I did not fit into the category of 'Bollywood-like' belly-shaking nymphos...Well...let's not get into that. So young man, while I laud you for your brilliance and young wisdom, I DO NOT salute you for the lies and propaganda you blog on for your masters.

Be a true doctor and heal wounds...don't poke into old ones and insult the intelligence and wisdom of true Indians. oh What have I done to serve Indians?...I teach them to read, count and write. What have you done but blog? Oh I forgot, your're a student still. Hence no time to serve and be of use as yet. I can only sigh that teachers like me taught you and failed. Before you retort with ugliness and insults, be a true Indian and remember to respect 'mata, pita and guru'!!!
